About the program

The Electronics Technician Certificate program presents a complete in-depth introduction to the fundamentals of applied electronics. It covers the basics, from series circuits through to digital electronics. This program provides hundreds of practical laboratory experiments using two innovative simulation environments, (3DLab and CircuitLogix), to demonstrate theory and showcase examples from industrial and manufacturing electronics.

The Electronics Technician Certificate allows students to ‘learn-at-your-own-pace’, studying, experimenting and taking final exams when it fits into their busy schedule. The program is presented in 24 modules, each containing text, animations, mini audio lectures, illustrations, review questions, online resources, over 450 pre-built lab projects and practice exams.

Highlights

Electronic Simulation software

One of the main learning features of the ET program is the complete integration of laboratory experiments and projects
within the presentation of the electronics theory. This is accomplished through the introduction of circuit simulation
software that simulates the behavior of electronic circuits. Students who enroll in the program receive a licensed copy
of CircuitLogix Pro, a leading commercially available simulator that includes both 2D- and 3D-circuit simulation tools.

Circuit Logix

CircuitLogix is used to provide circuit examples and an experimental simulation environment for students to build and test their own circuit.

The simluation tool CircuitLogix is both powerful and easy to use. In this example of circuit simulation we are using a series RLC circuit to demonstrate the rate of change of a controlled variable.

3DLab Circuit Simulation

3DLab is used mainly in the introductory level modules, providing a realistic lab simulation environment for DC circuit experiments. It provides an easy to use and easy to understand introduction to building, testing and visualizing basic electronics circuit.  3D Lab also features a ‘Lab Quiz’ function that allows a student to develop and test their troubleshooting skills.

CircuitLogix Circuit Simulation

CircuitLogix uses two dimensional, schematic circuit representation in a simulation environment to build, test and troubleshoot more advanced circuits. CircuitLogix Pro allows users to simulate any combination of analog and digital components. Along with the expanded simulation capability, this professional version features a large device library of over 4,000 devices, easy SPICE model import, and no limit on the number of pins for an individual circuit.

Program Costs

George Brown College offers you a number of easy registration options, to make it convenient and affordable for you to register in the Electronics Technician Certificate. You can registration for the program in full, or if you prefer, you can pay module-by-module with our pay-as-you-learn option or just purchase the curriculum material on its own.  Our pay-as-you-learn option gives you the ability to begin the program after paying a portion of the cost, and as you work your way through the program you will pay for your next module as you access it.  If you are on a budget, this can be a great way to get started on or continue your education without a huge up-front investment.

Payment Options

Full Registration

Students register and pay for the complete program at one time. Full registration includes all tuition fees and learning material fees for the program and represents the entire program cost of $1760. It also includes the laboratory simulation software program and access to all of the learning resources for the 24 modules as well web-based supplemental resources, free tutorial and technical support and online testing.

Pay-As-You-Learn Registration

Initial registration is $380 (includes all learning materials, laboratory simulation software and Module 1) and registration for each of the remaining 23 modules is $60/module. Students may register for one or more modules at any time.

Purchase the curriculum material

Purchase the web-based curriculum material on its own, at a cost of $320, and preview it before registering into the program,

The Electronics Technician and Electromechanical programs share a common core of eighteen modules. Graduates of one program will receive credit for exemptions, for these common modules, and need only complete 6 more modules  to earn a second certificate.

Additional Online Program Resources

To further enhance the program and provide supplemental learning the Online Student Resource Center offers additional resources including alternative study content,  examples, exercises, tutorial videos, student tutorial forums and the online exam center.
